Mastering Interoperability: The MuleSoft Advantage

In the Healthcare and Life Sciences industry, a company can rarely utilize one transactional system to effectively run its entire business. Most companies rely on three or more systems, this can include a CRM, EMR/EHR, Financial Software, and a Data Warehouse or Lake, to support various tasks and teams. These are just a few system examples…

Interoperability, the process of getting these systems to move data and communicate with each other, is essential within a company to keep operations running smoothly as well as stay ahead of the competition.

There are tons of ways to integrate systems and share data, but some are better than others. Companies using MuleSoft to achieve interoperability gain the following benefits:

  • Improve Data Security and Governance – Using MuleSoft for all your integrations means you’re always operating on a secure, enterprise-grade platform that protects sensitive, business-critical data. There is a MuleSoft component that offers detailed logging, built-in governance, and scalable workflow for changing logic for ever-changing scenarios. This also drives toward HIPAA and SOC2 compliance.
  • Increase Productivity and Efficiencies – Integrating systems with MuleSoft can increase efficiency by removing the need for repetitive, manual data entry and duplicative tasks. It improves the accuracy of the data by providing a single source of truth, reduces the risk of human error, and ensures that all information is consistent across systems.
  • Accuracy and Precision – This means better data quality. Using dedicated systems for what they were intended, and using MuleSoft to automate the sharing of that data to systems that need to reference it, means your team is saving time and less likely to make mistakes.
  • Streamline Operations – You’ll see improvements across your company’s operational efficiency, productivity and overall quality. Integration helps companies streamline and manage all their daily processes.
  • Cost Savings – Building APIs or other custom code requires initial investment and maintenance costs, but using MuleSoft lowers that total cost of IT resources. This can be through reducing the number of software licenses, eliminating task repetition and duplication, and preventing costly errors that need to be fixed from happening in the first place. Mulesoft security

The MuleSoft AnyPoint Platform offers several components and connectors that help to simplify building out the integration. We’ve been able to assist our client in connecting and moving data across two Salesforce instances and an EMR using the following:

  • Logger Component to monitor and debug the MuleSoft application such as error messages, status notifications, payloads, and so on.
  • HL7 Connector to easily read, create, and transform HL7 messages to and from the EMR.
  • SFTP Connector to read, move, and delete files over the SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol).
  • Salesforce Connector to connect and share Salesforce data bi-directionally with other Salesforce instances, and the EMR.
